Many women around the country have chosen Gynecare TVT Mesh to treat pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and stress urinary incontinence (SUI). Unfortunately, the placement of this product has recently been found to be much more invasive than traditional stitching techniques, and comes with a host of severe potential health complications. What Complications Can Gynecare TVT Mesh Cause?
Over the past several years, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has received thousands of reports of complications associated with the transvaginal placement of Gynecare TVT Mesh and other similar products. These complications can have serious consequences and may be life-threatening. The most frequent complications associated with Gynecare TVT Mesh include:
- erosion through vaginal epithelium
- pain, including dyspareunia
- urinary problems
- recurrence of prolapse and/or incontinence
- bowel, bladder, and blood vessel perforation
- vaginal scarring
- mesh erosion
In some women, these complications led to discomfort and pain, including pain during sex (dyspareunia). Some recipients required additional surgical procedures to remove the mesh that eroded into the vaginal tissues. Other complications included injuries to nearby organs such as the bowel, bladder, or blood vessels.
